Canada remembers, online

Dear bloggers and friends,

Covid-19 is changing the way Remembrance Day 2020 will be marked. We are asked to “remember in place” at home and watch the public service online. Places where hundreds gather every year to remember those who fought for Canada, would be closed. There will be no parades, or screens for viewing the ceremony on site. A limited number of official wreathes will be placed at the Cenotaph and the public is asked not to gather to place poppies on the memorial. These are hard times, but nevertheless we remember with passion the sacrifices made to preserve our freedoms and we are eternally thankful.

Our cheer goes back to them, the valiant dead! Laurels and roses on their graves today, Lilies and laurels over them we lay, And violets o”er each unforgotten head.” (Richard Hovey)
And they who for their country die shall fill an honored grave, for glory lights the soldier’s tomb, and beauty weeps the brave.” (Joseph Drake)
The legacy of heroes is the memory of a great name and the inheritance of a great example.” (Benjamin Disraeli)

To all who have served in all branches of the military: “you have preserved our freedoms and we thank you for it, from our hearts”.
