Excellent article that touches upon the issue that is becoming more and more crucial with time. I fully agree with erinjcs that Police have a job to do and they need to be respected. We must honor and respect our protectors and try to be of help to them whenever we can rather than hinder them in any way.

It seems to be happening more and more that people think it is okay to fight with the police. It’s not! The police have a job to do and they need to be respected. We should be standing up for them on issues like this – since the only reason they even have to use tasers is to protect society from people who cannot be controlled in other ways.
Why should a police officer have to weigh in with uncontrollable troublemakers and risk getting walloped or injured when they can use another safe mechanism that allows them to keep their distance? There are hundreds of police officers that are killed or injured on the job each year while on the job protecting our cities/towns because of individuals that think that it is okay to resist them.

these days these clashes are on a rise, in a sharp speed. Guess both sides will have to practice self analyzation and caution.
In India police have lost its credibility years ago, people have lost their faith in law almost completely so they are tangling too much with cops- that is hardly desirable or good but in India police department requires a serious transformation- in and out!!!!!

I agree with you all the way Sharmishtha my friend. The clashes are occurring with an alarming frequency. Some sense needs to prevail in people here, they need to show more respect for the police officers commands. Since here when a police officer stops a person it is for a good valid reason. I hope things get better for India in this area since India is a great and biggest democracy in the world. Hoping for the best for the part of the world where you live my friend. I feel this is so disrespectful to fight, at any time, in any circumstance. I do feel that police must also try when it is a peaceful gathering, at least, to keep their respect of others, too. It is sometimes scary to hear the police get accosted. Until I saw a policeman throw a man down, wearing only shorts and bare feet, I had never personally seen someone in a position of authority do an injustice. I hope that the public realizes how special all officials are, that it is a VERY rare occasion when the misuse of justice occurs. This was a very thought-provoking post, Samina. Thanks Robin for sharing the experience you witnessed, but such incidents do not happen too often and one does not even know the background story to the incident. Usually when people do not comply with the command of a police officer they get into trouble. Thanks for such kind words about the post. As I agree, I emphasized that this is a VERY rare occasion and one must always respect the police. It is always important to mention the balance in command and the way we respond. Only a few in all areas of life, medicine and law included, have their flaws. I feature real stories with some positive and some negative attributes. Thanks Samina for always being positive! Samina, I firmly believe that respect is a main key in any relationship. When respect is shown from both parties, situations get resolved faster. I am yet to meet a disrespectful officer. Kudos to all who protect us.

Thank you for your kind words. I am just a regular guy, no different than anyone else. Years ago I had dealt with the RCMP, and I have to say they are a class act. I also belonged to many forensic identification associations, and met many officers from RCMP. However probably the funniest encounter was when I was looking for a fugitive who had family in Nova Scotia. I called and spoke to an officer assigned there, explained who I was looking for, and he quickly replied, “No, he’s not here.” I asked him wasn’t he even going to drive by the house I had been told he was hiding, or ask around with neighbors, interview people, etc. He replied, “This is Nova Scotia. Everybody knows everybody!” He was however fascinated by crime here in the US. A few weeks later I mailed him a copy of our major daily newspaper here in New Jersey, the Asbury Park Press. When he received it, he called me and asked me if the crime in the paper was for the past month. I told him, no, that is just what happened yesterday! So, you are very lucky to live in that beautiful country you call home! Best, Joe

I am lucky to be living in Canada, the greatest country in the world. But I have to say if Canada is my heart, US is my soul and spirit. My hubby got all his education in California. The border of US is just 45 minutes from where I live in Vancouver, BC. I do most of my blogging at my vacation home in US.
