Wisdom

“O clear intelligence, force beyond all measure!

O fate of man, working both good and evil!

when the laws are kept, how proudly his city stands!

when the laws are broken, what of his city then?”

Sophocles.

Unbalanced and unexpected crime has a lot to do with transnational organized crime which is different in nature and intensity than homegrown crime. A common person finds it hard to understand the nature of the transnational organized crime and its limits, and is totally baffled by it and hence becomes an easy prey of criminals. Deficit in understanding transnational organized crime is based on the fact that it has its own evolution, circumstances and growth patterns.

This is where the wisdom of the Police Officer saves the society. He moves in

when all seems lost. It is the Police Officer who will give common man the understanding of the transnational organized crime and the methods of defense. He understands the nature of the transnational organized crime and knows the methods to combat it. His visible presence is enough to deter the criminals. He is to be honored and respected since he is the only one who knows the language the international criminal understands.

When forces of crime invade a society they bring their own darkness to blind the citizens and push them to a point where they lose sensitivity to their normal lives and adapt to a new life without realizing its consequences. The process of obliteration begins and how deep it will penetrate depends upon how many get involved in the process for greed and quick profits. Crime and crime

groups try to influence the defense of a society such as the law enforcement agencies. Fearing for their existence the criminal groups use bribes, demand and intimidation tactics to dominate these agencies. It is sad that when crime prevails, the benefit of the law is given to the criminals for fear of personal safety and repercussions from the crime groups.

This is the beginning of depravity when one after the other defense of society is annihilated which offers fertile ground for the crime groups to grow and rule. The only force of resilience is the Police Officer who fully understands the evolution of crime. He is the lone and the last defense of innocent citizens. He understands the vain attempts of humanity to escape the evil that threatens them in the form of crime. He also knows that it is his wisdom that will save them in the end, for he is their messiah and a savior.

Devastation left by crime makes a person stranger in his own homeland. Everything can become unrecognizable. Countries can shrink and gradually decrease in size owing to the overwhelming influence of transnational organized crime. When crime preys on innocent people in a state of helplessness they run to the safety of their homes. Home becomes the sanctuary they can confine themselves to as they watch their country taken over by the transnational organized crime wave. They wonder about what happened to the vast country and its metropolis’ with malls, shopping centers, and other places of assembly and entertainment? To them they all seem to be traps where criminals are waiting for their innocent preys.

The nature of the job of the Police Officer reminds him at every meal that this could be his last meal on earth considering the danger of his job in a crime ridden society. He strives hard to make our surroundings live-able for us. In order to make a live-able society we also have to give in our own way by fully supporting him in every possible way.

Police Officers’ belief is not religious, political but parental in nature to protect us all unconditionally. His wise advice to the youth is to stay away from crime and to adopt a hard-working lifestyle which is rewarding in the end. In so many words like a parent he tells them,

“Learn fortitude and toil from me, my son,

Ache of true toil. Good fortune learn from others.”

(Virgil, The Aeneid. Bk. XII. 595-596)
