“You know the appointed end

of all things, and all the ways.

You know how many leaves the earth unfolds in spring,

how many grains of sand are driven by storm, wind, and wave

in the rivers and the sea.

You see clear the shape of the future

and what will bring it to pass.”

(Ninth Pythian Ode of Pindar. 44-49 in the Greek).

Police Officer is a person of great vision, imagination, and wisdom. Like a prophet, he can predict what future a society is heading towards. He knows where the ripples caused by crime waves will hit. His judgement surpasses the judgement of the judges, jury and the lawyers since he upholds the law in its perfectionist form and is not influenced by the thought of any personal gains. His triumph is upholding the law and his honor is precious to him, and that is his accomplishment.

When forces of crime bring darkness to a society the greatest fear is that society may lose its curiosity to find the truth and would blindly descend into perpetual darkness. In such a state of darkness crime groups start dictating the new norms of society and hence push it further into depravity. Police Officer is the only one who will recognize this fact in advance and will stop these forces of the dark in their tracks.

Police Officer regularly reminds us that owing to our efforts we can create a new reality for ourselves and for society. His nature exemplifies his undaunted worth since he believes in living by inviolable truth. He is committed to the promise of ensuring the safety and security of the society. Owing to his optimistic temperament as he advances safety and security he expects it to grow and thrive wherever it is planted. He is blessed with the gift of graciousness of life which he is ready to share in defense of the people who depend on him. He can perceive that human decency goes a long way and its impact on people’s lives is everlasting.

The legacy of The Police Officers is that they are great visionaries. In their lifetime they win high praises and endless honors. They are admired while they live a life of honor and dignity in the service of people since they are their rightful leaders. And they are adored the most when lost to humanity.

My prayer for the kindest human beings who carry the burden of the Nation on their shoulders and the visionaries who own the greatest gift of endurance is:

“O passi graviora, dabit deus his quoue finem

O you who have borne even heavier things, God will grant an end to these too.”

(Virgil, Aeneid Bk. 1. 1.199)
